With aging and/or childbirth, the vagina often becomes stretched and gaping and loses much of the elasticity that contributed substantially to the sexual pleasure of both partners. The muscles of both the vagina and the perineum have become relaxed and have poor muscle tone, strength and/or control.
Today vaginoplasty or surgical vagina rejuvenation has become increasingly popular. It is a normal surgical procedure used to tighten the entire vaginal area, including muscles and surrounding soft tissues. This is accomplished by also reducing the excess mucus lining within the vagina. The result is a decrease in the overall size of the vagina and increase in the desirable friction during sexual intercourse.
Recovery is relatively rapid. Patients are usually able to walk comfortably within a few days. Sexual activity may be resumed normally within six weeks. As with any surgery certain risks may be involved. You should discuss these with your doctor.
